Terry Probyn, Dr. Rebecca Bailey, and Jane Dickel presented at the American Legion’s National Commission on Children and Youth in Indianapolis, Indiana. Children and Youth Leaders from all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia were in attendance, representing over 4 million members. We were introduced by Dennis Boland from Florida, the Chairman of this Commission, and were graciously hosted by Jason R. Kees, MBA, Assistant Director of Americanism and Children & Youth Division.
Terry shared her story to present the WHY of the Foundation. Dr. Bailey presented the WHAT as she described all three programs. Jane spoke about HOW the members of the Legion could help spread the word and collaborate with the Foundation to bring programs to their communities.
There was a great deal of interest expressed for the Foundation programs. Ideas were shared about how to reach out to organizations that can connect us with military families in need. We learned more about the needs of these families and even made a great connection with an organization that may be able to help us with transportation of families to our treatment site. The Legion members were very complimentary, supportive and enthusiastic about our work. We are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead for an association with this wonderful organization. We made new friends, and left with a renewed sense of purpose.
